A few interesting opportunities have come to light. We had a call from Lois Kelly, the Regional Coordinator for Northern Rivers’ Food.
The first request was to join in the Casino Garden Show, by supplying a few of our products for Chef Julie Ray to cook with at the show. We were certainly very pleased to be able to support this long standing and popular local venture. We delivered the jars about 9 am on the Saturday morning to the Casino Civic Hall and were amazed at the number of people there. This show had been well publicised in the local media and with our local ABC broadcasting from the site with “gardening guru” Phil Dudman it was a ‘no brainer’ that this would be an extremely successfull day out.
The next request was Lois heading for Sydney, representing NR Food for International Women’s Day. Lois (among other things) was to attend a dinner which had Maggie Beer as guest speaker. This was a great opportunity to promote Northern Rivers’ products to a woman who is clearly an icon in modern Australian cuisine, so we gladly made a contribution to the NR Food hamper. We’re still waiting and hoping that we will hear from Maggie soon.
Other than getting back into the cooking and delivering, the only other happening has been an invitation to the “Ballina Bounty Fine Food & Wine Festival” to be held on May 29th. We’ve gladly accepted. We attended the inaugral festival last year at the Ballina Jockey Club, and it was a ‘ripper’. The people from the Rotary Club of Ballina-on-Richmond really know how to organise an event. I would thoroughly recommend everyone’s attendance.
And if you are thinking of coming to this part of the world, Casino’s Beef Week is on again during the last week of May. The bid day down town is Saturday May 28th. Casino, then Ballina – there’s a great double!
